There are people you remember as an ache before you are allowed to remember them as a person again. You were a Friday-shaped absence for a long time: rain on glass, an empty chair, a scone with nobody across the table to split it with.
Then you came back. Not unchanged, not untouched—just real, and here, and willing to begin again. I think some part of me had been keeping your seat warm the whole time.
